Calcasieu bills OK’d by House
<p class="p1">BATON ROUGE — Two Calcasieu Parish bills were approved unanimously by the House on Tuesday and move to the Senate.</p><p class="p1">Rep. Stephen Dwight, R-Moss Bluff, is author of House Bill 55, which would increase criminal court costs for certain defendants in 14th Judicial District Court from $5 to as much as $10. Civil filing fees would go from $3 to as much as $20.</p><p class="p1">H.B. 802, by Rep. Dorothy Sue Hill, D-Dry Creek, would raise the maximum compensation for members of gravity drainage boards in Calcasieu Parish from $100 to $150 per day. </p><p class="p1">Dwight handled the measure for Hill, who is on medical leave. He said Calcasieu board members were left out when compensation was increased in 2004 for other drainage boards in the state.</p>
