Student accused of making threats against DeRidder school

Beauregard Parish students were put on lockdown on Wednesday after a threat was posted to social media by a local student.

Beauregard Parish School Board Superintendent Larry Hollie said in a statement that DeRidder High School and local law enforcement were informed of the threat. All BPSB schools were subsequently put on lockdown so that the “perceived threat” could be investigated.

“At no time were any students, faculty or staff in danger,” he said in the statement. “The situation was handled quickly by school administration and law enforcement.

“The lockdown was quickly lifted and all schools resumed the standard schedule. When it comes to the safety of our students and faculty, we will always take each situation seriously and err on the side of over-protection.”

The DeRidder Police Department is investigating the case. DPD said that the student accused of making the social media threat has been detained and is being questioned.
