Rapides man killed in DeQuincy crash

A 59-year-old Rapides Parish man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on La. 12, just one mile west 1 mile of DeQuincy city limits.

Louisiana State Police Troop D spokesperson Trooper Matt Gaspard said the 3 p.m. crash claimed the life of Warren Eugene Wood of Elmer.

Gaspard said Wood was driving a 1996 Peterbilt dump truck westbound on La 12. For reasons still under investigation, the dump truck left the roadway to the right, overcorrected, and traveled back across the roadway to the left.

“The dump truck then turned over onto its left side before sliding into a wooded tree line, striking several trees, and immediately caught fire,” Gaspard said.

Due to the severity of the crash, seatbelt usage is unknown for Wood. He received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
