Slime time: Three hours of fun, food, movies planned for Nickelodeon Day of Play at Prien Lake Park

Instead of making a play date for the kids, make one with the kids.

Put down the cellphones, get up and go outside. From 2:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday is Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play at Prien Lake Park.

Lake Charles based the free event, in part, on Nickelodeon’s campaign that began in 2004. For three hours there was no programming. A special message appeared on the screen that challenged kids to play outside, kick a ball, jump a rope or run a race, etc.

Bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to Prien Park. Put pets on a leash. Enjoy sack races, slime making, sack races bubble painting, parachute games and more with McNeese State athletes joining the fun.

Check in at the Indian Bay Pavilion to get a fitness challenge punch card. Get it punched at each fitness station and win a prize.

Nachos, hot dogs and a special edition Nickelodeon snow cone will be available.

Movies Under the Stars, shown by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, is Rugrats in Paris at 6 p.m.
