Who let the dogs back in?

Leonard’s Marketplace did, with the return of their delectable quarter-pound, all-beef wiener New Orleans style hotdog

Now you can get the slow-simmered homemade goodness of the foods you grew up on – and still crave – without peeling a single crawfish tail, caramelizing a single onion or stirring a single roux until it’s c’est bon.

Lake Area diners have been enjoying Leonard’s Food Quarters Restaurant for over 30 years. A few years ago, the family opened Leonard’s Marketplace next door. This new enterprise makes Leonard’s dishes more readily available in the Southwest Louisiana area to more people — whenever they want.

Leonard’s Marketplace offers red beans and rice with smoked sausage, chicken and sausage gumbo, smothered steak, spaghetti and meatballs, crawfish and shrimp etouffee in quart, pint and single, affordable heat-and-eat meals. You just put them in the oven or in the microwave and serve.

Other popular Leonard’s Marketplace items are rice dressing mix, seafood dressing mix, homemade boudin and boudin balls.

“Times have changed,” said Jamie Fuselier. “But our recipes haven’t. Your grandmother may have had time to tenderize steak and cook it low and slow, but you don’t. Both parents have to work these days. Single parents make up a large percentage of the population. Construction workers have crazy commutes, work long hours and need hearty, good-tasting meals. Given the choice of spending time in the kitchen cooking or spending time with family enjoying great food, which would you prefer?”

New: Hot and fast “dog” menu plus homemade banana pudding

Over the years, Leonard Fuselier’s customers would ask, “When are you going to bring back the Leonard’s New Orleans style hotdog and homemade banana pudding?”

“The Leonard’s dog was a quarter-pound, all-beef wiener with Leonard’s homemade chili, onions, relish, mayo and mustard on a warm, split po-boy roll,” Fuselier said. Here at Leonard’s Marketplace, we now have that, plus a few other hot, fast foods: the Cajun BBQ hot link sandwich, the Creole Boudin on a bun, Frito Pie and Homemade Chili. Top it off with chips and a drink.  Choose from cheese, jalapenos, jalapeno mayo, onions and relish for garnishing.

Like a little something sweet after you eat? Order a serving of homemade banana pudding for dessert or in a size large enough to take to your next family reunion or church dinner. (No one will know you didn’t make it yourself.)

Leonard’s foods are wherever you are

Leonard’s Marketplace is not only making its signature dishes and new, fast menu “dogs” more available to the Lake Area. Leonard’s Marketplace sausage, boudin balls, spices, heat and eat meals and other Leonard’s foods can be ordered online and delivered to just about anywhere in the world – including the campus where your college student is enrolled in the fall and among people who have never tasted boudin and have no idea how to pronounce it.

Leonard’s Marketplace meals are old-fashioned in more ways than one. They are prepared by the Fuseliers, a family that puts God first, appreciates and appreciates His many blessings. They value hard work, each other, great food and every customer they serve.

When asked to what she attributes the secret of Leonard’s success, Jamie Fuselier said, “When you don’t mind working hard and you treat people the way you want to be treated, it makes a difference.”
