LAKE ARTHUR — Lake Arthur police arrested a local man after he allegedly used counterfeit money to buy a gun.

Shayden Joseph Naquin, 20, of Lake Arthur was arrested on charges of monetary instrument abuse and theft of a firearm.

He was released Thursday on a $20,000 bond.

Lake Arthur police began investigating the counterfeit money after a transaction was reportedly made between two parties that involved the selling of a firearm.

After the transaction was complete, it was discovered the firearm was purchased with $800 in counterfeit bills.

The fake bills actually had the words “replica” on them and read “United Sates of America” instead of “United States of America.”””

Police Chief Kobi Turner said the $800 in fake currency used to purchase a firearm had the word “replica” written on them.
