Sulphur woman arrested for negligent homicide

A 26-year-old Sulphur woman was arrested Wednesday after her 8-month-old son died in her home. Lacey A. Blount, the baby’s mother, told authorities with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office that she used methamphetamine and marijuana while caring for the baby. Deputies responded to a call at the home on Eunice Street in reference to a baby who was not breathing.

The baby was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Blount told detectives she tried to hide drugs in the home while deputies were distracted and attempting to perform life-saving measures on the baby, according to Kim Myers, Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson.

She was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with negligent homicide, possession of CDS Schedule I, possession of CDS Schedule II, obstruction of justice and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Judge Ron Ware set her bond at $12,000.

Blount had not bonded out of the Correctional Center as of press time Thursday.

The Coroner’s Office is investigating and has not yet released the baby’s cause of death.

Detective Keeba Barber is lead investigator on the case.
