Higgins announces Army Corps funding for south Louisiana projects

U.S. Congressman Clay Higgins, R-La., announced today that South Louisiana waterway projects received funding in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FY 2024 Army Civil Work Plan.

“Maintaining our ports and waterways is an investment in America’s future, and a tremendous amount of work goes into our efforts annually to prioritize funding for South Louisiana projects,” Higgins said. “The FY24 Work Plan provides critical support for our ports, waterways, locks, and flood control infrastructure across Louisiana’s 3rd District. My office will continue to push for the funding of our maritime infrastructure to ensure the economic success of Louisiana and our nation.”

Operation & Maintenance projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District were awarded:

  • $62,461,000 for the Atchafalaya River and Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and Black
  • $33,000 for the Bayou Teche and Vermilion River
  • $564,000 for Bayou Teche
  • $54,086,581 for the Calcasieu River and Pass
  • $18,277,000 for Freshwater Bayou
  • $19,134,000 for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway
  • $10,941,000 for the Mermentau River

Construction projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District were awarded:

  • $18,000,000 for improvements to sediment disposal sites and containment dike construction at the Calcasieu River and Pass
  • $4,875,000 for the beneficial use of dredged materials in the Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration project
  • $20,356,000 for shoreline protection as part of the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Hurricane Protection project

Mississippi River & Tributaries projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District were awarded:

  • $1,625,000 for maintenance on the Atchafalaya Basin Floodway System
  • $19,055,000 to the Atchafalaya Basin project for dredging and guide wall replacement at locks
