Fun for foodies: More than 30 restaurants participating in Chuck Eats week

The Southwest Louisiana food scene gets even tastier starting this weekend. Friday, Jan. 19, through Sunday, Jan. 28, is the second annual Chuck Eats Week, an event to “elevate the community and visitors’ awareness of the many unique culinary creations and food scenes throughout Southwest Louisiana,” according to the Visit Lake Charles website. What that means for foodies is special fixed pricing, deals, discounts and menus for drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout Calcasieu Parish.

More than 30 restaurants are participating. Here are some examples of what to expect. Remember, every restaurant, price range, savings opportunity and menu is different. The challenge will be making a schedule to enjoy as much of the experience as possible in a mere two weeks.

At Bodega Wine Drive, choose each course of a four-course meal. Will it be wild mushroom and parmesan risotto cakes, crab cakes or stuffed mushrooms for the appetizer? The blackberry walnut salad, caesar salad with chicken or the mushroom and brie soup for the second course? Lamb lollipops over hummus, rigatoni alfredo with chicken, rigatoni red sauce and meatballs, spicy sausage pizza, wine lovers pizza and bodega pizza are main entre decisions. Choose from a dessert board or stuffed dates for dessert.

Lunch and dinner choices abound at The Terrace where Chef Amanda Cusey has come up with Gumbo egg rolls as one of the appetizer choices. Course two choices are shrimp and grits; chicken and bacon pasta; chicken, Nueske’s Bacon, leeks, Sisu Farms oyster mushroom and cream sauce over pasta, or the Chuck Burger, a surf and turf burger with a beef patty, sauteed shrimp, bacon, cheese, peppers and leeks. Save room for dessert, deep fried bread pudding.

Golden Doors is keeping it simply delicious and affordable with a $25 two-course meal of gumbo, potato salad, beignets and soft drink in an elegant setting.

Insane Sausages in Vinton and Jeanne’s Street BBQ in Westlake will have $10 lunch specials in addition to special dinner pricing.

The Maplewood Burger Lake Charles location will feature a $6.99 breakfast and $12.99 lunch and dinner.
