Trojans, Rosepine vie for 5-2A title

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview Week 10 football games inolving area small (Classes 1A and 2A) schools.

What is the best game on the schedule?

WA: East Beauregard vs. Rosepine. Its a winner-take-all game for the District 5-2A title and has playoff implications as well with Rosepine looking to secure a top four seed and East Beauregard hoping to secure a first round home game when pairings are announced Sunday.

RA: Elton vs. Oberlin. With a No. 18 power ranking, Elton is in the playoffs but is looking to get some momentum going in after losing three of its last four games. The Indians have won three of their last four against Oberlin including 49-14 last year. Oberlin, ranked 11th and all but assured a home playoff game, is coming off a forfeit win over South Cameron and is well rested.

What is the best in-game matchup?

WA: Lake Arthur offense vs. Notre Dame defense. The Pios have been absurdly good on defense, allowing a total of 3 points against four Class 2A opponents, including shutouts each of the past two weeks. Lake Arthur has five games with 42 or more points scored, but only scored 15 last week against Kinder.

RA: Hamilton RB Reggie Jackson vs. Basile’s defense. Jackson leads all running backs in Southwest Louisiana with 1,417 yards and 11 TDs on 172 carries. But he will be up against a Bearcat defense that is allowing just 12.6 points per game and has a five-game win streak.

Name a player to watch.

WA: Merryville RB Cam’ron Williams, who has run for 238 yards and 5 TDs over the past two games. The Panthers started the season with five losses but have won four straight. This week they face a tough St. Edmund defense that has allowed only 18 points in six district games, all wins.

RA: Vinton WR Jaden Carrier has stepped it up a notch in the last five weeks with 7 TD receptions and three 100-yard games. The sophomore now has 504 yards and 8 TDs. Vinton has lost two consecutive games where they held a lead in the first half, but will look to get back on track this week at Pickering.””Three-point Stance
