Cal-Cam Fair packing a week’s worth of fun into three days

The Calcasieu Cameron Fair Board has packed a week’s worth of fun into three days. The 2021 Cal-Cam Fair is “Back in the Groove” Fri., Oct. 8, Sat., Oct. 9 and Sun., Oct. 10.  Gates open at 4 p.m. Rides start at 5 p.m. Enjoy carnival rides for all ages, games, food booths, livestock show, contests, gospel and other musical entertainment. Don’t miss Ultimate Bullfight at 7 p.m., Sat., Oct. 9. After the bullfight, Marty Haggard, son of legendary Merle Haggard will take the stage.

“It’s been a tough year,” said Chuck Kinney, board president. “But you gotta keep fighting back or you’re gonna get whipped,” he said. “That applies to fighting COVID, pushing through hurricane recovery, planning a fair that exceeds expectations, surviving an Ultimate Bullfight and just about everything else in life.”

Friday, Oct. 8

Gates open at  4 p.m., rides at 5. (Special citizens are invited to visit fairgrounds Friday morning from10 a.m.-noon.) The small livestock show begins at 5 p.m.; Cal Cam’s Got Talent is at 6 p.m.; and Mark Reeves and Twisted X will entertain 8 pm. – 11 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 9

Gates open at 10 a.m. and rides at 11. The Cal Cam Children’s Cooking Contest is from 10:30 a.m. until noon; gospel singing is 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Elvis Show with Dennis Soileau starts at 5:30. The Ultimate Bull Fighting event begins at 7 p.m. Ultimate bull fighting pits man against beast. Bullfighters are on their feet. To dodge and taunt the bull, these tough as nails athletes perform dangerous stunts as close to the bull as possible without getting hit. After the bullfight, Marty Haggard takes the stage.

Sunday, Oct. 10

Gates and rides open at noon. The beef livestock show is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Admission is $10 for Friday, $15 for Saturday and $5 for Sunday. Ride bracelets are $25 and are good for rides at any time the fairgrounds and rides are open on the day purchased. All the fun of “Back in the Groove,” takes place at the West-Cal Arena & Events Center at 401 Arena Rd., Sulphur.
