Still some unresolved district races

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, staff writers Warren Arceneaux and Rodrick Anderson preview Week 10 high school football games involving area large schools.

What is the most interesting game on the schedule?

WA: Washington-Marion vs. Iowa amounts to an elimination game with the Charging Indians 35th and the Yellow Jackets 37th in the most recent power ratings. The top 32 qualify for the playoffs. The winner has a chance to move into the top 32, but the loser will be finished.

RA: Iota at Eunice. Head coach Josh Andrus has turned Iota into a district contender four seasons after back-to-back winless campaigns. Iota can win its first outright district title in more than a decade. The winner will likely be the No. 1 seed in Class 3A as Iota is ranked No. 1 and Eunice is No. 2.

What is the best in-game matchup?

WA: Leesville offense against St. Louis defense. The Saints have not allowed more than 27 points in a game over the past six weeks. The Wampus Cats average 34 per game, moving the ball on the ground and through the air behind a big offensive line that features a pair of college commitments in Matt Anderson (Nebraska) and Montae Lynch (Stephen F. Austin).

RA: Sulphur’s defense vs. Comeaux QB Tre Harris. The Tors defense, led by linebackers Jake Lafleur, Austin Tramonte, Bryan Young and Macky Leblanc, have held opponents to 18.4 points over its last five games. To stop Comeaux’s triple option, the Tors will have to lock down Harris, who has rushed for eight TDs and thrown for three more.

Name a player to watch.

WA: Jennings RB Darrian Achane, a Southeastern Louisiana commitment, has 826 yards and 10 TDs rushing and will need to produce big plays against a stingy Lake Charles College Prep defense tonight if the Bulldogs are to win, which might be needed to secure a playoff berth.

RA: Washington-Marion RB Carrington McClinton. With so many offensive players out or injured, the McClinton will need to take on a leading role to get the Charging Indians the win they need to make the playoffs. McClinton has six 100-yard games and has rushed for 913 yards and nine TDs on 121 carries.””Three-point Stance
