19-year-old bicyclist killed in crash

A 19-year-old Jennings man was killed Friday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding was stuck from behind.
Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Matt Gaspard said Kaleb Istre was struck just before 4 p.m. on U.S. 90 near La. 1126 in Jeff Davis Parish.
Gaspard said sister was riding a bicycle westbound on U.S. 90 in the westbound lane of travel. At the same time, a Ram pickup truck, driven by Felton Duhon Jr. of Jennings, was traveling westbound on U.S. 90 behind Istre. For reasons still under investigation, the front of the Ram pickup struck the bicycle from the rear, causing Istre to be ejected.
Istre, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, received fatal injuries and died at the scene. Duhon and his passenger were both properly restrained and were not injured.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, Gaspard said.
