Robinson, Hebert players to watch

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Warren Arceneaux and Rodrick Anderson discuss the Week 5 football game involving area small schools.

What is the most interesting game on the schedule?

RA: Kinder at DeQuincy, Thursday. Both teams are 2-2 and looking for some momentum with district right around the corner. The Tigers are coming off their second shutout win, beating Bunkie 27-0. DeQuincy has some talented offensive players in senior quarterback Cooper Hext and freshman wide receiver and running back James Austin, who had 136 yards and two touchdowns last week. Kinder has lost two in a row. Quarterback Hayes Fawcett has accounted for six TDs (3 rushing, 3 passing), but will need to jump start the Yellow Jackets’ offense that has been held to under 15 points the last three games after scoring 35 in Week 1.

WA: East Beauregard at Lake Arthur. The Trojans have rolled to four straight wins while the Tigers are 3-1 with the loss coming to undefeated 3A team Iota. Both teams prefer the ground and pound attack offensively, though the Tigers have gotten plenty of big plays on passes from Deuce Duhon to Tavaris Achane.

What is the best in-game match-up?

RA: East Beauregard’s run game vs. Lake Arthur’s defense. East Beauregard is 4-0 since 2014 thanks to a methodical run game that features three backs with at least 100-yard game in Brycelyn Murphy, Devon Perkins and Jackson Lewis. Lake Arthur can run the ball, too, but the key to its success has been its defense that had allowed under 13 points in its three wins and 42 in its loan loss.

WA: Kinder’s defense vs. DeQuincy. The Tigers offense has had games with 41 and 27 points sandwiched around a 13-point showing in a loss to South Beauregard. The Golden Knights have a physical front, and the Yellow Jackets usually boast a ferocious defense, though they have allowed 66 points over the last two weeks while facing teams from higher classifications. The jackets did shut out their only 2A opponent so far in an opening week win over Oakdale.

Who is a player to watch?

RA: Elton’s Darnell Robinson. The senior has scored in all four games this season, starting with a pair of kickoff return touchdowns in Week 1. He is coming off his best game of the season, rushing for 159 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Indians to their first win last week and will go toe-to-toe with the area’s rushing lead this week in Hamilton Christian’s Reggie Jackson (888 yards, 9 TDS).

WA: Welsh RB Jerome Hebert. Hebert has run for at least 82 yards in every game this season, going over the 100-yard mark three times, including each of the past two weeks. That streak should continue this week as the Greyhounds travel to face a winless Erath team that has allowed at least 27 points in every game this season.
””Three-point Stance
