Former office manager sentenced for embezzling from employer

A woman who was the former office manager of a company in Cameron Parish was sentenced this week to 12 months and one day in prison for stealing more than $91,000 from her employer.

Belinda Miltenberger, 47, was sentenced on Monday by U.S. District Judge Robert G. James on one count of wire fraud.

She will be on probation for three years after her release and she was also ordered to pay $91,846 in restitution.

Miltenberger pleaded guilty to the charge in June.

She was the office manager for Cameron Fisheries LLC, a seafood processing and wholesale company.

Her responsibilities included maintaining office records of all sales and other business transactions.

Investigators said from January 2016 until about February 2017, Miltenberger embezzled funds from cash seafood sales.

Instead of depositing certain cash sales into the company’s bank account, she told authorities she kept the money for her personal use.

When company officials in Seattle looked at account balances in early 2017, they asked Miltenberger to prepare end-of-year financial statements. In response, they said, she created fraudulent financial reports and sent them to her supervisors in an effort to conceal what had taken place.
