Phil Niekro

Twenty years after he broke into the majors, 45-year-old starter Phil Niekro deals a knuckleball against the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium, Aug. 8, 1984. His trademark pitch apparently deserted him on this day, as Niekro was pulled in the third inning after giving up six straight hits without recording an out. The Yankees lost to the White Sox 5-4, on their way to a third place finish in the division, 17 games behind the Detroit Tigers in this largely forgettable season. (AP Photo/Richard Drew)
