New tip in cold case leads to dead end

Beauregard case still classified as missing person

A recent tip brought fresh wounds to a cold case in Beauregard Parish on Friday.

According to authorities, the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip last week pointing detectives to a location in Singer where, the tipster claimed, they would find the remains of a man named Trent Perkins. Perkins has been missing for 13 years.

Chief Detective Mark Herford said that detectives spent the day utilizing excavating equipment as they searched the location they had been directed to, but to no avail. Herford said there still remains no clue as to whatever happened to Perkins.

“We have received tips now and then over the years and we investigate every lead that comes in, but unfortunately we have not gotten any closer to finding him,” Herford stated.

Perkins was reported missing on Jan. 22, 2005, by his family who said that he had not been in contact with them for days. Not checking in regularly with his mother was, they said in the report, out of character for Perkins.

Perkins’ mother passed away last year, and Herford said he and other detectives continue to hope someone will come forward with solid information so that Perkins’ remaining family members can at last have answers.

The case is still classified as a missing person.

“Our office will continue to follow every lead that comes our way, and we will not stop searching for Trent Perkins until we find him alive or deceased,” Herford stated.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Perkins is encouraged to contact the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-463-3281.
