Bingo for Designer Bags

The Lake Charles chapter of Zeta Phi Beta sorority will host its second annual Bingo for Designer Bags event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Foreman-Reynaud Community Center. The fundraiser operates in collaboration with the March of Dimes to provide layette packets for low-income new mothers.

The sorority will put together care packages of diapers, blankets, bottles, bibs and other newborn supplies that will be available for community distribution.

“Our primary goal is not only to give out the packets but to help bring healthy babies into the world,” said Barbara Hardy, local chapter president.

Zeta Phi Beta has worked with the March of Dimes since 1972 and Hardy said the organization is determined to help provide in-need mothers with all of the necessary means to begin life with a new baby.

With the layette packages mothers will also receive prenatal education, resources and referrals to doctors if a mother is not receiving pre-natal care, Hardy said.

Saturday’s event will feature 20 bingo rounds each with an opportunity to win a designer bag.

Sorority members have donated the bags to the event allowing 100 percent of the funds to go to the March of Dimes fundraiser, Hardy said.

Participants will have the opportunity to win Dooney and Bourke, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach, Vera Wang and a variety of other high-end fashion label bags. Hardy said winners are eligible to win a new bag for every round of the event, so winners may walk away with more than one prize.

Along with dinner and DJ Tony Royster, the event will feature a final “blackout” round to win an extra-large designer bag. She said additional party games will be played throughout the night to win an assortment of other gift items.

Tickets are $60 and include 20 games of bingo. To purchase tickets call Deneen Sweet, chairman of the event, at 352-409-3952 or Hardy at 263-4121.
