SULPHUR — Kinder overcame a sluggish start with a huge inning in its 11-4 win over Doyle in the Class 2A state championship game.

The Jackets (28-16) couldn't get out of their own way early, committing an error in each of the first two innings while allowing a pair of runs in each frame as Doyle raced out to a 4-0 lead. The Tigers (32-13) got a RBI single from Cade Watts and a fielder's choice RBI from Tyson Stewart in the first inning and had a pair of runs score in the second inning on a fielding error that occurred with the bases loaded.

Kinder rallied in the third inning, cutting the lead in half when Colin Klein led off with a single and Michael Fontenot launched a homer to left field to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Jackets then loaded the bases with nobody out on a hit batter and pair of walks. Matt Robertson drew another walk to score Elijah Lavan with the third run of the inning. Ian LaBuff singled to left to score courtesy runner William Fontenot with the tying run.

An errant pick off throw allowed Anderson to score the go-ahead run and Brooks Fawcett followed with a single to score Matt Robertson. After two outs, Fontenot singled to score Labuff and Brooks Fawcett, making the score 8-4.

The Jackets added two runs in the fourth when Labruff doubled and scored on a wild pitch and Fontenot added another RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Brooks Fawcett earned the win in relief, pitching the final six innings without allowing an earned run.

Fontenot led the offense with three hits, a walk and 5 RBIs.
