What's the best game involving an area team?

WA: Lake Charles College Prep at Kinder. There will be talent all over the field in this one and a contrast of styles between the Trail Blazers' spread offense and Yellow Jackets' flexbone attack. Prep edged the 'Jackets 27-20 in an entertaining game in Lake Charles last year.

RA: DeRidder at Iowa. The game will feature two of the area's top returning quarterbacks in DeRidder senior K.J. Gooden (692 yards rushing, 1,058 yds. passing, 20 total TDs) and Iowa senior Gene Natali (115-213-12, 17, 35 yds., 17 TDs). Iowa won last year's matchup 13-3.

Which area team has the most interesting schedule?

WA: Prep travels to Natchitoches Central for a rematch of last year's 50-49 shootout Prep won, hosts neighbor LaGrange which beat the Blazers last year and travels to Class 2A power Kinder.

RA: Coming off a run to the Division II semifinals, St. Louis Catholic will not get to ease into the COVID-19-shortened season. The Saints will open with back-to-back home games against 2A quarterfinalist Kinder and 2A regional finalist Welsh followed by a road game at Church Point, which lost by one point to eventual 3A state runner-up Jennings in the regional round.

Name the best out-of-area player who will visit Southwest Louisiana?

WA: Opelousas Catholic wide receiver Keon Coleman is a tremendous athlete who is committed to play both football and basketball at Kansas. He has led the Vikings to the state championship game in hoops and scored 22 touchdowns on 25 catches as a junior last season. OCS plays at Kinder in Week 4.

RA: Lafayette Christian's Sage Ryan is a three-way star that has garnered multiple Division I offers. He led the Knights to a 41-14 route of St. Charles Catholic in the Division III state championship game last fall with 197 all-purpose yards, including a 42-yard pick-six, 31-yard touchdown reception and 66-yard punt return touchdown. Lafayette Christian will play at Lake Arthur in Week 6.
