Thousands of Entergy customers in Lake Charles were without power on Tuesday after two separate outages, officials said.
Margaret Harris, Entergy customer service representative for Lake Charles, said the first outage occurred at 9:42 a.m. because of damage to a utility pole on Country Club Road. Initially, 1,853 customers were without power. All but 445 customers had their power restored by 10:10 a.m. Power was restored to the remaining customers by 4 or 5 p.m.
"The pole has a significant amount of equipment, which makes it take longer to replace and make all the connections," she said.
The source of the pole's damage had not been determined as of Tuesday, Harris said.
"It broke up high," she said. "We can make some assumptions. Something may have snagged it or caught it."
The second outage began at 11:10 a.m. when a tree top impacted the lines in the area of West Prien Lake and West Sale roads, Harris said. The outage affected 2,650 Entergy customers.
Vegetation crews had to remove the tree, and power was restored to all customers by 1:23 p.m.
"The tree was outside the right of way," Harris said. "We think it was not a healthy tree."
