CHILD drowns graphic

LAKE ARTHUR - A 3-year-old child died following an accidental drowning Monday while on an outing with his family in Lake Arthur.

Police Chief Kobi Turner said the Lake Arthur Police Department received a call around 4 p.m. about an unresponsive child that was found near the beach.

CPR was immediately started while waiting for medical personnel to arrive, he said. Once medical personnel arrived, CPR was continued however no pulse could be detected.

The child was pronounced deceased at 5:20 p.m. by the Jeff Davis Parish coroner.

Turner said the family of the child, who was visiting the area, was nearby when the drowning occurred.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine what happened, he said.
