1_25 nonfaculty South Beauregard coach arrested

A nonfaculty coach at South Beauregard High School has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student at the same school, authorities announced Thursday.

Steven B. Hodges Jr., 43, was arrested Wednesday evening for one count of prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student, according to Beauregard Parish authorities.

Beauregard Parish School Board Superintendent Timothy Cooley confirmed to the American Press that Hodges had been associated with the school as a volunteer coach and was not receiving a salary from the school.

According to Chief Detective Mark Herford, detectives with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office first received a complaint of the alleged relationship between Hodges and the student Jan. 11.

He said an investigation began immediately, with the assistance of the Beauregard Parish School Board and the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

A warrant was issued for Hodges’ arrest Wednesday.

Hodges was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail with a bond set at $3,000.

Herford said that the investigation is still ongoing.
