The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Medical Reserve Corps will host a free Community Family Safety Expo 9 a.m. to-3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Burton Coliseum.
Angela Jouett, manager of the Medical Reserve Corps, said the Expo is being held with one goal in mind — to keep families safe.
"All the partners who participate will offer services and information to help us achieve that goal," said Jouett.
Information will be offered at the event on water and fire safety, safe sleep, crash safety, the DARE program, and bleeding control education.
Some of the local agencies who will be participating in the event include the Calcasieu Coroner's Office, the Lake Charles and Sulphur fire departments, Louisiana State Police Troop D, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, and True Blue Water Sports.
Other sponsors that will provided safety information include the Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), 911, Red Cross, Office of Public Health, Acadian Ambulance, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital's Training Center, Southwest Louisiana Center for Health Services, the City of Lake Charles, Dr. Antonio Rivera, Damsels in Distress, and local hospitals.
Sowela will offer free CPR certifications. Drop-in training segments will be available from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Attendees can also take part in a "drunk goggles" presentation and sign up for Safe Sitter classes.
Several food trucks will be at the event.
