A disturbance moving this way from southern California is expected to produce strong, gusty winds Friday night and bring a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms across Louisiana.

The sprawling multi-day system was tracking eastward across the Great Plains Thursday afternoon.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Meteorologist Doug Cramer said some locations may not receive any rain at all while others could receive up to 2 inches.

Coastal counties of Southeast Texas as well as central and Southwest Louisiana are under a wind advisory through 7 p.m. Friday. South winds of 20-25 mph are possible with gusts up to 35 mph.

Cramer said additional thunderstorms — some potentially severe — will develop into Saturday morning ahead of a separate cold front.

A few of the more intense thunderstorms Saturday could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes, Cramer said.

“Saturday is looking like a pretty major tornado outbreak for areas of Alabama, Mississippi, maybe even areas of southeastern Louisiana,” Cramer said. “That tornado risk does bleed into our area so we’re not quite out of the woods.”

High temperatures are expected in the 80s on Friday before dropping into the 40s on Saturday, said Meteorologist Donald Jones.

Most of the severe weather Saturday is expected in the morning and will likely be out of the area by mid-afternoon, Jones said.
