More than 20 teams will compete for bragging rights at the United Way of Southwest Louisiana’s upcoming Battle for the Paddle Jambalaya & Pastalaya Cook-Off.

The fourth annual event serves as a showcase of culinary talent, live music and kid-friendly activities, according to Ashley Norman, associate director of marketing and communications for the agency.

The culinary showdown is set for Thursday, March 13, in the circle driveway of the Lake Charles Event Center.

Nelson said starting at 5 p.m., attendees can indulge in mouth-watering food and enjoy a lively concert performance by Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie.

“The event will be free for children, and United Way Southwest Louisiana will provide a kid’s zone to entertain the little ones,” Nelson said.

Admission to the cook-off is $15 for a sampler ticket, which includes unlimited jambalaya and pastalaya tastings. Reduced rates are available at $10 for students, first responders and veterans.

Cook-off participants can register in two divisions: jambalaya and pastalaya. Teams can compete in one or both divisions, with entry fees at $500 for one division and $750 for both. To register or for more information, visit unitedwayswla.org/battle or text BATTLE to 40403.

At the end of the evening, awards will be presented for first, second and third places in both categories, along with the People’s Choice award and Best Tent Décor. Guests are also encouraged to participate in the fun by dressing up for a chance to win the Best Costume Award.

All proceeds from the Battle for the Paddle cook-off will benefit United Way Southwest Louisiana initiatives.
