Wanda Rose Wright, aged 89, of Lake Charles, passed from this life on Feb. 9, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born Wanda Rose Gribble on April 29, 1935, in Deridder, La. Having lived in different places during the Depression, her family settled in Lake Charles, where she graduated from LaGrange High School in 1953. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., where she met and married Albert Joseph Kopp. Lake Charles is where she would ultimately put down roots, make friends, and raise a family whom she dearly loved and who dearly loved her. Wanda worked for many years with her sister, Bobbi Hosea, and other family members at Merle Norman Cosmetics. She also worked for over 20 years at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department, where she retired in 2000. One of Wanda’s favorite pastimes was visiting with family and friends and feeding the whole crew with a delicious pot of her gumbo. She met and married Harry Wright in 1994. She and her husband were members of Trinity Baptist Church, and they both deeply cherished their relationships with their Bible Study Group.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Margret and Robert Gribble, and her sister, Bobbi Hosea.
