Linda “Payne” Susan DeRise, 78, of Moss Bluff, La., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025.  

She was born on Aug. 2, 1946, in Portland, Maine. Linda dedicated her career to the medical field, serving as the Director of Medical Services at Phelps Correctional Center in DeQuincy, La., and as a Medical Auditor for the American Correctional Association. She was a member of the Grande Bois, Krewe du Court.

Beyond her professional life, Linda cherished time with her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with the companionship of her beloved dogs.  

She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Bruce Payne; her mother, Hazel O. Whitney; her stepfather, Brad Cushman; her sister, Catherine Cushman, and her daughter, Keith Sprinkle.  

Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” DeRise of Moss Bluff, La.; her children, James Boyd DeRise and wife, Cathie of Moss Point, Miss., Tracy Melancon and husband, Gary, of Santa Fe, Texas, Heather Johnson and husband, Mike of Mont Belvieu, Texas, and Lorri Moses of Moss Bluff, La. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one more great-grandchild expected soon.  

The family will welcome the public for visitation at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Monday, Feb., 10, 2025 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday, Feb., 11 2025 at 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m.
