After three consecutive first-round exits, including at home last season, the Barbe Bucs boys soccer team got it right on Saturday. The No. 11 Bucs beat No. 22 Alexandria 6-1 in the bi-district round of the Division I playoffs.

It is the Bucs (10-5-6) first playoff win since beating Baton Rouge 3-2 in the bi-district round in 2017. The Division I, District 3 champs will travel to No. 6 St. Paul’s (15-5-2) in the regional round. St. Paul’s beat No. 27 Bonnabel (10-5-2) 6-0 on Saturday.

The Bucs scored three or more goals for the 11th time this season, led by sophomore L.T. Pruitt, who scored two second-half goals and assisted on another to help the Bucs (11-5-6) keep up the pressure on the Trojans (9-11-3).

Barbe didn’t have to wait long for their first scoring opportunity. They were awarded a free kick after the Trojans’ keeper touched the ball outside the 18-yard box in the fifth minute. Carlo Sansivirini scored on the play with an assist by Matthew Fontenot.

Pruitt had a shot bounce off the left post in the 32nd minute, but Aiden Sanford put the ricochet in the net for a 2-0 lead. Sanford assisted on two goals in the second half.

Barbe had six shots on goal in the first half, while Buc goalkeeper Tanner Jinks stopped all three of the Trojans’ first-half shots.

Eric Miranda and Fontenot scored for the Bucs in the second half, while Lucas Callaba and Braylan Woods had assists.
