Eagles continue domination of 4-2A girls basketball

Two-time defending Nonselect Division III state champion Rosepine continues to roll through District 4-2A this season. On Thursday, the Eagles led wire-to-wire to beat Vinton 54-5 on the road.

The Eagles (17-9, 5-0) are perfect in District 4-2A, winning by an average of 32.8 points. The Eagles have won 41 of their last 44 district games.

Amaya Shine, the Eagles’ lone senior, had a double-double with 11 points and 13 steals, and sophomore Case James scored a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

Rosepine held the Lions to one field goal, a layup by 11 with 42 seconds left in the third quarter by Madyson Jones.

The Eagles rapid-fire offense had no trouble Thursday as they raced out to a 21-0 lead before Vinton (3-16, 1-4) scored its first point with 5:48 left in the second quarter when Lauren Heinen made a free throw.

Shine scored eight of her 11 points off steals and the Eagles forced the Lions into 31 turnovers.
