Kathleen Burnet, 60, the sole resident of the camper, did not survive.

Deputies determined that the fire was caused by unsafe heating practices, including the use of a wood-burning stove and chiminea inside the camper. Additionally, the camper did not have working smoke alarms.

The incident marks the 15th fire fatality in the state this year, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Last year, by this time in the month of January, there was only one fire fatality reported.

State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J. Adams reminds residents to practice safe home heating. When using a space heater, plug it directly into a wall outlet and keep it 3-5 feet away from flammable objects. Do not use ovens or stoves to heat homes, and never leave open flames, such as fireplaces and candles, unattended.
