High schools making plans, Storm prompts postponements, cancellations

Tropical Storm Francine is moving slowly in the southern Gulf of Mexico, but it is already affecting high school sports in Southwest Louisiana.
Calcasieu Parish announced Monday afternoon that all schools will be closed today and Wednesday. CPSB Public Information Officer Holly Holland said all high school sporting events for those days have been postponed. As for Thursday and Friday games, Holland said it will depend on storm damage.
Beauregard Parish School Board Public Information Officer Kari Ifland said sporting events are postponed for today and Wednesday and a decision will be made Wednesday afternoon about the status of Thursday and Friday games.
Some area football game times have changed. St. Louis Catholic moved its home game against Bunkie to noon Saturday at Sulphur High School’s Matt Walker Memorial Stadium. LaGrange will host Westlake at 6 p.m. Saturday at John J. Mims Stadium. Washington-Marion’s home game against South Beauregard moved to 6 p.m. Saturday. At 1 p.m. Saturday, Lake Charles College Prep will host Barbe at Cougar Stadium.
Cameron Parish schools will be closed today through Thursday.
Grand Lake moved its home opener against Rosepine to 6 p.m. Saturday.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, Francine had sustained winds of 60 mph and was forecast to make landfall somewhere in the Paul J. Rainey Wildlife Refuge on the southwest side Vermilion Bay about 7 p.m. Wednesday.
