Yet another round of thunderstorms expected this afternoon

A persistent pattern is expected to bring yet another thunderstorm complex into the region this afternoon and into the evening hours.

The National Weather Service Lake Charles Office said there is a marginal to slight risk for excessive rainfall that could lead to flooding — mainly along and north of Interstate 10.

The agency said the main threat  is expected to be damaging wind gusts; however, with saturated soils, any heavy rainfall or high rainfall rates in storms will quickly runoff, posing a risk for flooding — especially in urban and low-lying areas.

Today’s temperatures are expected to be in the high-80s to early-90s.

Beyond today, the agency said there is the possibility that another round of storms could affect the area again late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

“A series of disturbances is expected to continue to bring occasional showers and storms each day” this week, the agency reported.

There are “still some hints” in the model guidance that daily rain chances should diminish later this week as high pressure begins to build in from the west, the agency said.
