CORAL GABLES, Fla. — All-American Lucas Gordon pitched seven strong innings and Texas beat Louisiana-Lafayette 4-2 on Friday in the opening game of the Coral Gables Regional.

No. 2 seed Texas (39-20) advanced to a winners bracket game today against regional host and top-seeded Miami (41-19), which beat No. 4 seeded Maine 9-1. No. 3 seed ULL (40-23) will play Maine (32-20) in an elimination game.

The game was scoreless until a two-out single by Conor Higgs got ULL on the board in the sixth inning. The lead proved to be short-lived when Mitchell Daly homered to lead off the bottom of the inning and a two-out RBI single by Porter Brown gave the Longhorns a 2-1 lead.

Texas added a two-out, two-run double by Dylan Campbell in the seventh. He extended his hitting streak to a Big 12-record 36 games.

Carson Roccaforte hit a solo home run for the Ragin’ Cajuns off Morehouse in the eighth.

ULL threatened in the fourth inning, putting runners at the corners. But Gordon got a strikeout for the second out and center fielder Eric Kennedy made a leaping grab of John Taylor’s potential home run.

Jackson Nezuh (9-6) took the loss.
