Edward  John Khoury

Edward John Khoury passed away in his home with his family on May 21, 2023.  Edward is a life-long resident of Lake Charles, La.  He had a distinguished career at McNeese State University.  Throughout his 38 years at the university, Edward served as an Assistant Professor of Microbiology, Academic Advisor, the Director of Basic Studies, and the Dean of Enrollment Management.  He led many university initiatives to include an online freshman seminar, nontraditional student orientation, the Associate and Bachelor Degrees of General Studies, and the Peer Leader Orientation Program.  Edward was a friend, mentor, counselor, advocate, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Edward was committed to service in his community, volunteering his time for the Calcasieu Arts and Humanities Council, Calcasieu Preservation and Historical Society and the Faith and Friends Food Pantry.  Edward was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd where he worshipped and served with great pride and dedication.  He was a three-term Vestry member, two-term Senior Warden of the Vestry, and he established the Brown Bag Program, which provides food for community residents.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Jessie McAndrew Khoury; his brothers, Joe King and Larry King.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Litaker Khoury; his daughters, Whitney Khoury Matte (Bruce) and Jenny Khoury Mills (Gerry); his grandchildren, Taylor Guillory, Nicholas Guillory, Lynlee Mills, John Mills, Clay Matte, Tucker Matte, Tate Matte; and his sister, Karole Khoury Caskey (Jack).

Mr. Khoury’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 715 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.  The Rev. Dr. Mitzi George will serve as celebrant.  Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.  His ashes will be laid to rest in the Chapel of the Resurrection Columbarium immediately following the service.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening in Hardtner Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, or a charity of choice.
