A Lafayette man accused of raping a local 10-year-old girl has been extradited back to Louisiana to face charges.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said their office received a complaint last May accusing Jamaal B. Dugas, 38, of having inappropriate sexual contact with a girl under the age of 10.

The victim told detectives the incidents occurred in Calcasieu Parish between November 2019 and April 2021, Vincent said.

An investigation was conducted by detectives and the case was turned over to the District Attorney’s Office. In August 2022, Dugas was indicted by a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury and a warrant was issued for his arrest. In October 2022, he was located in Michigan and arrested.

On March 24, he was extradited back to Calcasieu Parish and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with first-degree rape.  Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $1.5 million.
