Collin Ryan Corbett, a 25-year-old high school teacher and coach at East Beauregard High School, has resigned following allegations he was “involved in a case of prohibited contact between an educator and a student,” said Beauregard Superintendent Larry Hollie.

Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Det. Sylvester Denmond said his office was contacted by the BPSB administration on March 17 of the allegation. According to a the BPSO, the inappropriate contact with the student was via communications on social media.

Following an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Monday for Corbett on one count of prohibited sexual misconduct between an educator and student. The misconduct statue refers to prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student who is 17 or older but less than 21 and the age difference is greater than four years between the two people.

At 9:30 p.m. that night, he was released.

The next day, Corbett resigned his position as teacher and coach, Hollie said.

“We have no further information to release, as the case is now in the hands of law enforcement.”

The investigation is ongoing and other charges could be pending, according to BPSO.
