Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said Wednesday he will not be seeking re-election and will retire when his term is complete in June 2024.

Mancuso has served nearly 20 years as sheriff and has a 40-year career in law enforcement. He began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1984.  During his early career at the Sheriff’s Office, he was assigned to several divisions including corrections, patrol, and youth.

Mancuso was elected as Ward 3 City Marshal in 1996 and re-elected in 2002, for his second term.  In October 2003, Mancuso was elected Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish; he assumed office in July 2004.  He was re-elected in 2007, 2011, and 2015 without opposition, and again after the 2019 election.  He’s now serving his fifth term.

My focus has always been the safety of our community and the integrity of our deputies here at the Sheriff’s Office.  My goal was to bring this department to the cutting edge of law enforcement procedures and technology and afford our deputies the opportunity to receive the best training for their day-to-day duties, as well as specialized trainings, to better serve our community.  I achieved the goals I set for this department and myself, and I feel I have done much more; none of which would have been possible without the Command Staff and leaders who always supported my decisions.  I have had a wonderful ride the last almost 40 years and it has been a privilege to serve the residents in Calcasieu Parish.  I hope you think I did a good job as your Sheriff and I want our community to know I never took your trust or vote for granted.  It is now time to take a vacation and spend time with my grandkids,” Mancuso said.
