Earlier this week, Jennings hired Kinder’s Bret Fuselier. Other new coaches include Troy Gardner (Rosepine), Tyler Lavergne (Vinton) and John Dougherty (Pickering).

Gueringer spent nine seasons at Welsh, four as head coach. He compiled a 20-23 record with three trips to the regional round of the Class 2A playoffs. Welsh started the 2022 season 8-0 and finished 9-2, its best season since reaching the final in 2018.

Gueringer was the Greyhounds’ offensive coordinator for five seasons before taking over the program, including

the 2017 state championship team.

Gueringer replaces Chris Towery, who went 12-14 in three seasons with an appearance in the Class 5A playoffs in 2021.

“I see a place that loves football and has a great tradition and the ability to cultivate and build the culture that they set before,” Gueringer said. “We are going to do everything we can to be Tors and be tough. I see a fan base that loves the game. I accept the challenge and I am ready to rock and roll.

“I will forever be indebted for what those people and community did and embraced me. I am going to miss the kids. It (Welsh) is a wonderful place and gave me my first opportunity to be a head coach. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them. A little piece of them is with me here.”

Ogbanga was offensive coordinator at Southwood in Shreveport in 2022.

Since 2014, he has coached at Grant, Peabody Magnet, Red River as well as Southwood, according to his online Linkedin profile.

He received a bachelor’s degree from McNeese State in 2010 and completed his master’s — sports and fitness administration at Northwestern State in 2013.

Ogbanga replaces Marrico Wilson, who had led the Gator program since 2018.

Six new head football coaches have been hired in Southwest Louisiana in the last few weeks with openings at Welsh, Oberlin and Kinder waiting to be filled.
