A Jennings man is facing eight counts of aggravated animal cruelty after an adult female dog and seven puppies were found to be in poor health at his residence.

Ivory Simon, 60, turned himself into the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued on Monday.

He was later released on a $2,500 bond set.

Jeff Davis Parish sheriff’s deputies began investigating the animal cruelty complaint in late December in which a search warrant was executed for a resident on North Frontage Road, according to Chief Deputy Chris Ivey.

The dogs were taken to the Pet Emergency Clinic in Lake Charles and were found to be in poor health, he said. One of the puppies later died.
