Boutte going pro, LSU receiver changes mind about staying

LSU’s second-leading receiver, junior Kayshon Boutte, changed his mind and said he will make himself available for the NFL draft.

Boutte revealed his decision on social media Wednesday night. Earlier in the day the school announced that Boutte would skip Monday’s Citrus Bowl game against Purdue in Orlando, Florida, but remain enrolled for the spring semester.

A social media post by Boutte in early December indicated that he intended to remain at LSU for the 2023 season.

Boutte missed two games to injury this season, caught 48 passes for 538 yards and two touchdowns.

It was somewhat of a disappointing season for a player who was a preseason all-Southeastern Conference pick despite missing the second half of the 2021 season with an ankle injury.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Boutte was coming off his best game of the season — 107 yards on six receptions against No. 1 Georgia in a 50-30 loss in the SEC Championship game, including 53-yard touchdown catch-and-run.

As a freshman in 2020, Boutte caught 45 passes for 735 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games.

Wide receiver is perhaps LSU’s deepest position, led by Malik Nabors with 63 catches for 854 yards.

But Boutte is the second receiver to forego his senior season for the NFL draft, joining Jaray Jenkins.

Boutte’s spot will likely be taken by sophomore transfer Kyren Lacey, who this season made 22 catches for 211 yards.
