Gladys “Odell”“ Driskill Knighton passed away at age 97 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 3 at Brookedale/Claire Bridge Memory Care Facility. She was born on Nov. 12, 1925, in Arcadia, La., to Clarence T. Driskill and Cliffie C. Driskill. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alton W. Knighton; her five siblings JC Driskill, Otis Driskill, Jack Driskill, Dennis Driskill (brothers), and Theadean Dora Driskill (sister); and her parents.
She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church and because of her ability to love unconditionally she had a multitude of friends in her lifetime. To know her was to love her. Her family will always cherish the happy memories and her caring love she gave to all of us. Whether it was cooking her famous cornbread dressing or her holiday fruit cookies or sharing her love and laughter… she always made us feel special.
Left to cherish her memory is her only daughter, Cheryl LeBlanc (Gerry); granddaughters, Tera LeBlanc Scarborough and Heather Simon (Brock); great-grandchildren, Baleigh Scarborough, Falyn Granger (Mason), Barron Simon, Haylen Simon, and Brody Simon, and Pebbles (puppy).
Her family is so very grateful for the entire staff at Brookedale who showed her so much love and compassion during her stay and Amedysis Hospice for their kindness and desire to help her during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
Odell’s wishes was to donate her body to the State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Bureau of Anatomical Services. A memorial service to celebrate her precious life will be on Friday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Association, Trinity Baptist Church or a charity of your choice in her name.
