Doisey Gene Darby

SULPHUR- Doisey Gene Darby, 89, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, in a local hospice care center.
He was a native of Nunez, La., and had been a resident of Sulphur for over 60 years. Gene was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur where he was active in the worship choir, and also the Agin’ Cajuns Choir. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Hollywood Barber Shop in Sulphur for 65 years. Mr. Darby enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Philip Darby and wife Mindy, Patrick Darby, and Troy Darby and wife Rochelle, all of Sulphur; his siblings, Curtis Darby, Earl Darby, Earline Swire, Robert Darby, and Roberta Mire; eight grandchildren, Desiree Politz (Clay), Delaina Guthrie (Heath), Danielle Darby (Shena Chen), Christian Darby, Brandon Darby, Cameron Darby (Courtney), Kaitlyn Darby Hayes (Blaze), and Kathryne Darby; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Darby; his parents, Lionel and Ella Darby; and siblings, Raymond Darby, Thomas Darby, Hazel Patterson, Goldie Heard, Beverly Myers, Kenneth Darby, and Joyce Hebert.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Dr. David Holder will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Nunez Cemetery in Kaplan. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home.
