Laura Sylvia Aucoin Bourgeois, 86, of Lake Charles, La., passed away at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, in a local care facility.
Mrs. Bourgeois was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Labadieville, La., and has lived in Lake Charles, for the past 55 years. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and received her Master’s degree in education from McNeese State University. She taught elementary school for 48 years. Mrs. Bourgeois was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was active with a number of educational organizations, Christian Women, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed reading, gardening and crabbing. She dedicated her life to the education of children and impacted thousands of lives. She was a blessing as well to so many others throughout her life.
Mrs. Bourgeois is survived by her daughter, Micki Ann Voss (John Douglas) of Garland, Texas; sons, Edward Arlen Theall of WI and John Gregory Theall of Lake Charles; father of her children, John Theall of Lake Charles; and grandchildren, Amanda Theall, Jonathon Theall, Amy Theall, Chloe Theall, Angie Theall and Rose Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Lloyd Ray Bourgeois; son, Samuel “Jay” Theall; parents, Aurelia and Isadore Aucoin Sr.; brothers, Isadore Aucoin, Jr., Daniel Aucoin and Larry Aucoin; and sister, Marguerite Hanes.
Her memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve James will officiate. A gathering of family members and friends will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the start of the service.
