No. 8 Ohio State routs Cowgirls

COLUMBUS, Ohio — McNeese women’s basketball was overmatched and oversized here Sunday, falling 99-43 to No. 8 Ohio State.

McNeese (1-4) scored the first points of the game, but Ohio State scored the next 26 points to take a 26-2 lead midway through the quarter and never looked back.

The Cowgirls struggled taking care of the ball for the third straight game, committing 38 turnovers including 25 in the first half.

Ohio State (4-0) took advantage of Cowgirl turnovers and scored 40 off them and scored 54 points in the paint, mostly off layups.

The bright spot for the Cowgirls was sophomore Kaili Chamberlin who was the only McNeese player to score in double figures. Chamberlin ended the game with a game-high 16 points on 6 of 11 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Divine Tanks led the Cowgirls with eight rebounds.

Ohio State had five players score in double figures with Taylor Thierry leading the Buckeyes with 15 points.

McNeese will conclude its Midwest trip at Xavier next Tuesday.
