McNeese State University will be hosting a Preview Day for prospective students and their families 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The event will primarily take place in the Tritico Theatre in the Shearman Fine Arts Annex.

Kourtney Istre, McNeese State University director of recruiting, said events like Preview Day are important for prospective students to make informed decisions regarding their collegiate education.

“Preview Day is important to attend because it gives students the opportunity to see if McNeese is the right fit for them,” she said. “When you go to buy a car or a house, you want to walk around or test drive it to see how it performs. If you are going to invest in your education, you want to make sure that the campus is providing your degree program, offering services and resources to make you successful and experiences that will make you a well-rounded individual to thrive in the workplace and world.”

At the event, participants will have the opportunity to gather important information regarding scholarships and financial aid and the housing application process. For students who need help creating a Federal Students Aid ID account will have the opportunity to visit the computer lab for assistance.

In addition, Academic Open Houses will be available for students who want details on the various majors offered at McNeese.

“They can learn about the courses for the degree programs, meet faculty and students in those majors and see the classroom and facilities for the programs,” Istre said.

Student organizations will also be set up for prospective students to get a feel for the campus’ culture. “The college experience is another important topic when it comes to prospective students selecting their school,” she said. “We will have several student organizations represented for students to learn about them.”

Istre said various fraternities, sororities, community service clubs, religious organizations and academic groups will be in attendance.

The McNeese Bookstore will be open 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to give students and families the opportunity to browse the McNeese merchandise. Attendees will receive a 20 percent discount on purchases.

Student-led campus tours will also be available.

All attendees will get free admission to McNeese’s Volleyball game against the University of New Orleans on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will take place in the Legacy Center.

This will not be the only opportunity for students to get a feel for McNeese. Istre confirmed that there will be two more Preview Days this academic year — Nov. 5 and Feb. 4, 2023. For students that are unable to attend any of the Preview Day events, McNeese offers personal campus tours on weekdays. Prospective students can register for personal tours on the McNeese website.

Students can register for Preview Day online at www.mcneese.edu/previewday or by calling 337.562.4227. Onsite registration will be available the day of the event.
