Shirley Lyn Savoie

Shirley Lyn Savoie passed away at the family home on Sept. 20, 2022. She was born on July 28, 1936, in Lake Charles, La., to Laurent J. and Lena Elliott Savoie.
Shirley lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She graduated from St. Charles Academy in Lake Charles in 1954. She attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana, for one year. She went to work for Amoco Production Co. in 1965 and built a 30-year career in Louisiana and Texas with the company before her retirement.
Shirley enjoyed learning about nutrition and how to stay healthy, knowledge she thoughtfully shared with her family and friends. She was the second oldest of five children and helped care for her younger siblings. Shirley’s family will remember her gentle laugh, her kind smile, and her lifelong spirit of generosity and independence.
She was a loving mother to her son, David Wayne DeMary, who predeceased her. Her parents also predeceased her, as well as special companion, Brian Moore; her older brother, James E. Savoie; her younger sister, Mary Lauren Prejean; and her nephews, Brandon Savoie and John Savoie.
She is survived by her sisters, Sharon S. Odegar (David) and Sally A. Patin (Bill); her sister-in-law, Nancy Savoie; and her brother-in-law, Glenn Prejean; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
