Evelyn Robinson Langford went to her eternal heavenly home on Aug. 15, surrounded by her loving family.
Weighing only two pounds, she was born in DeQuincy, on Aug. 29, 1929, to Tom and Grace Kellogg Robinson. She was a graduate of DeQuincy High, Centenary College (B.S.) and McNeese State University (M.ED, Plus 30). She was a devoted wife for forty-five years to her husband Richard L. Langford who passed away in 1997. Evelyn was employed by the Louisiana Department of Public Welfare and the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She taught hundreds of children to read in Starks and DeQuincy. She and her husband owned Peppermint Palace, Rick’s Drive-In and Langford’s Gulf Station in the 1960s. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy and a devoted member of the First United Pentecostal Church. She was a kind woman of great faith who believed in the power of prayer and in helping others. She adored her grandchildren and loved to travel and read. She especially enjoyed Rome, Italy; Alaskan cruises and Colorado vacations. She also enjoyed time with family at Toledo Bend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her step-mother Mattie Royer Robinson; and two sisters, Imogene Spears and Tommie Linn Abdalla. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rhonda Langford Self and husband Don of DeQuincy, Rick Langford of Toledo Bend; grandchildren, Kayli Self Pask and husband Harrison, Matthew Cullen Self; brother-in-law Abraham Abdalla and nephews Jonathan, David and Daniel Abdalla.
The family will receive friends 1 – 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, with the funeral beginning at 3 p.m. The visitation and funeral will be held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, La. The Rev. Carlton Jackson Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Perkins Cemetery, DeQuincy, La.
