A LaGrange High student was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a school resource officer who smelt a strong odor of marijuana coming from a group of students located a firearm and a small amount of marijuana inside a 16-year-old student’s backpack during a subsequent search.

The student was arrested and will be booked in the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in a firearm-free zone; possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone; illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile; and possession of marijuana.
