Oakdale Police Chief Chad Doyle said police responded to a residential area on Arkansas Street around 3 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of someone being shot during a fight. When officers arrived the victim had already been transported to the hospital by someone at the scene, he said.

Pugh fled the scene of the shooting in a dark-colored sedan in an unknown direction before police arrived, Doyle said.

Pugh was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder, but that was updated to second-degree murder following Rakestraw’s death.

Anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of Pugh is encouraged to contact the Allen Parish Crime Stoppers at 337-389-7001, Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-639-4353 or the Oakdale Police Department at 318-335-0290. All callers will remain anonymous.
